Join this discussion, led by an expert on aging, and find out how the library's collection of books, film, music, etc. can provide you with additional support and answers.

Biography Reference Bank: Now Available on the Library's Web Site

Biography Reference Bank is the latest online reference source added to the library's growing collection of electronic resources. This database includes biographical articles of more than 500,000 people, including full text articles and over 30,000 images. Connect to Biography Reference Bank through the Online Databases link on the library's web site.

New Faculty Study

Boatwright Library invites all faculty to use the new Faculty Study on the library's B1 level. The Faculty Study--a quiet haven for reading, research, and writing--offers a mix of soft seating and work areas. Bring your laptop or borrow a laptop from the library. Present you UR faculty ID card and ask for the door's keypad combination at the library's main service desk. The study is available for day use. If you need to store research materials, please come to the library's Administration office on the second floor to obtain a library locker. Neither personal belongings nor library materials can be stored in the Faculty Study. Items left there will be placed in the library's lost and found.

Article Finder

Would you like to be able to search more than one library database at once? You can now do that with Article Finder! Choose your favorite databases to search or choose broad subject areas that interest you. Give it a try on the library's website under "Finding Information".

Personal Research Appointments with a Librarian

Make an appointment with a librarian to assist you with your research. In a personal research session (in-person or via email), a reference librarian can help you clarify which resources will work best for your topic, find the perfect book, database, or article on your topic and find keywords to use as search terms.

New Online Database: Education Research Complete

Over 1, 730 journals are indexed in this new education database, with full text coverage for nearly 830. All education levels and a variety of topics are included. In addition to journal articles, indexing for books, and conference papers is also available.

New Online Database: Communication & Mass Media Complete

Communication & Mass Media Complete (CMMC) provides quality research articles in areas related to communication and mass media. CMMC offers cover-to-cover indexing and abstracts for over 390 journals, and selected coverage of 200 more, for a combined coverage of nearly 600 titles. Over 285 journals are full text. CMMC can be found under "Online Databases" on the library's web site.

Lockers available in Boatwright Library

60 new lockers, 30 on each of the two basement levels are now available in the library. Lockers are assigned on a first-com, first-served basis for the full spring semester. The lockers are a convenience for students and faculty who are doing work that requires frequent use of library materials in the library sand who would like to store those materials securely at the library. To apply for a locker see Leigh Ann Brosnihan in the administration office on the second floor of Boatwright. Applications must be submitted in person. Applicants must present their UR ID card at the time they apply. For additional information contact Leigh Ann Brosnihan.

New Library Database -- Ancestry Library Edition

The University Libraries are pleased to announce the acquisition of Ancestry Library Edition. This database provides U.S. and British census and immigration records from 1790 - 1930 and it also includes historical maps and photographs. It can be found under "Online Databases" on the library's web site.

Library Catalog Down

The UR Library Catalog will be unavailable on Wednesday, December 20 and Thursday, December 21 due to upgrade maintenance. If you need assistance with the library's collection during this time period, please call the library's reference desk at x8669.

University Librarian Jim Rettig Nominated for President of the American Library Association

University of Richmond Librarian James Rettig is one of two candidates for president of the American Library Association (ALA). Rettig has been with University of Richmond since 1998. He has held a number of elected and appointed positions in ALA, including executive board member, governing council member, chair of the organization and publishing committees, and president of one of its divisions. Rettig holds two master’s degrees, one in English from Marquette University and one in library science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has earned numerous awards for his work, including the ALA’s G.K. Hall Award for Library Literature.

The Chicago Manual of Style Online

The University Libraries are pleased to announce that a subscription to The Chicago Manual of Style Online is now available on your desktop. It is completely searchable and easy to use, providing quick answers to your style and editing questions. The online version also incorporates the popular Chicago Style Q&A, a tools section with sample style sheets, and a quick guide for citing sources. You can find the link to the Chicago Manual of Style Online under "Citing Sources" on the library's website.

RefWorks Workshops for Faculty, Staff and Students

RefWorks is web-based bibliographic software that allows researchers to collect references from anywhere, at any time, and turn them into a personalized database. Users may automatically import references from online databases, manually import references, manage references using folders and easily generate formatted bibliographies into research papers, grants, or articles. The University of Richmond Libraries will offer the following workshops on how to get started with RefWorks. Dates and times are:Wednesday, November 1, 4-5 p.m. and Tuesday, November 14, 4-5 p.m. Both classes will be held in the Computer Classroom, Basement Level 2, Boatwright Library.
