Banned Books Week (September 27 - October 4) reminds Americans not to take the freedom to read for granted. As you visit Boatwright Library this week, note the signs along the walkway to the library and browse the displays of challenged books in the library.

International Film Series Opens September 12
The University of Richmond's 20th Annual International Film Series opens on September 12, 2008, featuring the highly acclaimed film, The Edge of Heaven (Turkey/Germany, 2007). The fall series features films from a wide variety of countries, including Israel, Turkey, China and Argentina. A special African film series will be featured the weekend of November 7 and 8. New Search Interface for UR Library Catalog
On Monday, August 18, a new search interface will debut for the UR Library Catalog. In addition to the updated search screen, printing and emailing information about library materials is much easier and users will be able to filter results as they explore a topic. Links to book summaries, reviews and cover images are also available. The catalog interface will work in all internet browsers, but Firefox is recommended. Check out the changes on Monday at: librarycat.richmond.edu

RefWorks Workshops
RefWorks is web-based bibliographic software that allows researchers to collect references from anywhere, at any time, and turn them into a personalized database. Users may automatically import references from online databases, manually import references, manage references using folders and easily generate formatted bibliographies into research papers, grants, or articles. The University of Richmond Libraries will offer the following workshops on how to get started with RefWorks. To learn more about this tool, please visit the library’s RefWorks webpage.

2008 Presidential Elections Research Guide
Boatwright Library has developed a 2008 Presidential Elections research guide to help students, staff, and faculty stay aware of the current campaign cycle. This guide provides information for academic work and personal decisions regarding this unprecedented election year.
The guide covers a variety of information such as:
· News coverage of the nomination process for both parties
· Information on state primaries & caucuses
· Current candidate websites
· Campaign speeches & advertisements
· Sources for checking the accuracy of campaign claims
· Campaign finance and money raised by current candidates
· Party National Conventions

Boatwright Library Launches Boatipedia
Boatipedia is the Libraries' attempt to incorporate all of our FAQs (frequently asked questions) into a Wiki. Similar to Wikipedia, you can find information on a variety of library information, such as how to access the library's electronic books, how to renew materials online, how to create an annotated bibliography and much more! Boatwright Library Launches MEEBO Instant Messaging Service
Boatwright Library now has a "Live Chat" icon on the library's website where students, staff and faculty can ask brief questions about libary services and sources. Librarians will answer IM messages from AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, GoogleTalk, and ICQ. You can add our buddy name "boatwrightinfo" to your buddy list or use the "Live Chat" icon. If you have a lengthy or involved question, you may be asked to email a librarian or to schedule a personal research appointment.
"IM" Service Hours are:

New Political Science Resources from Congressional Quarterly
Boatwright Library has added two new online reference sources in the field of political science. These include CQ Almanac Online Edition, a definitive reference resource for studying the United States Congress (1946- present) and CQ Press Political Reference Suite which provides legislative histories, policy analysis, and congressional profiles. Both sources are available under ONLINE DATABASES on the library's website.
