The Podcasts@Boatwright debut author is Dr. Doug Hicks, associate professor of leadership studies and religion and executive director of the Bonner Center for Civic Engagement. His new book, With God on All Sides: Leadership in a Devout and Diverse America, describes how our various religious traditions can help build common ground in America and how leaders can and should deal with religious diversity. Alert for SciFinder Scholar

Students, faculty, and staff who use the chemistry resource SciFinder Scholar will now need to register in order to access the resource online. Effective January 30th, the desktop client will cease to connect with the resource, although we are attempting to extend that deadline. Please direct your queries about SciFinder Scholar to Melanie Hilner at mhillner@richmond.edu

Parsons Podcast - Episode 31

The February 2 "Parsons Podcast" previews new CDs in the Music Library, including an Indian take on the music of Miles Davis, Max Raabe and the Palast Orchester (a great German jazz band recreating music of the 1920s and 30s), and piano music by Rossini.

Library Receives Ahmanson Foundation Grant

Boatwright Library has been awarded $12,000 from the Ahmanson Foundation to purchase materials to support the new Dance major. The centerpiece will be Dance in Video, a streaming video service from Alexander Street Press that offers some 250 dance productions and documentaries. Librarians will also work with Dance faculty to identify desirable books.

Chinese Exclusion Act “Remembering 1882” Art Exhibit
January 12 – 19 on the 2nd Floor of BML

Associated to Martin Luther King Jr.’s struggle to combat racism and other anti-humane values, “Remembering 1882” commemorates the Exclusion Act by exploring the historical debate from its origins through its full repeal in 1968, the civil rights struggle of Chinese Americans and their allies, and the historic importance of habeas corpus in the Chinese American community.

Knit One to Save One - Boatwright Knitters Tea

The Boatwright Knitters are hosting a tea on Wednesday & Thursday, December 10 & 11 Noon in the Rec Reading Lounge in Boatwright Library for Knit One, Save One, a new grassroots effort to help protect the 4 million newborns who die each year in the first month of life in the developing world.

Knitters and crocheters – bring your needles and baby yarn and join us. The Boatwright Knitters are happy to help you begin, finish or learn how to start knitting a hat!

Drop by and pick up a free pattern & start knitting for a good cause. Join us in making a baby cap & signing a letter to President-elect Obama urging him to lead the way to save babies globally.

Food for Fines Day - Friday, December 5, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Campus libraries will forgive $1 in overdue fines for each can or box of nonperishable food item donated. All items will be donated to the Central Virginia Food Bank. Participants include Boatwright, Media Resource Center, Technology Learning Center, Curriculum Materials Center.

Quiet Study and Group Study in Boatwright

Did you know that Boatwright Library offers designated quiet study and group study areas? In addition, there are around 270 seats in each area (total of 540!). Look for the signs on the 1st, 2nd and Basement Level 1 floors for designated quiet study area signs.

Users visiting the Main Service Desk in Boatwright Library will have the opportunity to complete a one-minute survey about their experience in the library during the week of November 9-15. We appreciate your feedback!

New Book/CD/DVD Return Units at Parsons Music library

The Music Library now has two book return units placed outside its front door. One unit is for books and one for CDs/DVDs. These will enable patrons to return library materials when the Music Library is closed. During service hours, materials should continue to be returned to the circulation desk.
