RSS Updates for New Books in the University Libraries!

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) Feeds are now available for new book titles in the University Libraries. RSS provide a way for users to receive a list of newly received book titles through a RSS or Blog Reader.

Times Digital Archives are purchased for the University Libraries' collections

The University Libraries have recently added the Times Digital Archive, 1785-1985 to its growing collection of full-text, digital newspapers. The Archive is the complete, full-text facsimile of the original Times of London. Connect to the Archive on the library's web site at through the UR Library Catalog or Online Databases links.

Library Document Delivery Service

Library Document Delivery Service Document Delivery is available to all UR faculty. It is also now available to staff on a trial basis through the fall 2006 semester. Books and journal articles held in Boatwright or the Music Library can be requested for work related purposes. Please note that Recreational Reading books, DVDs, Videos, Audio Books and Music CDs are not included in the delivery program. Connect to the document delivery web page for further details.

Now Available! Audio e-books from NetLibrary

E-Audiobooks from NetLibrary are digital versions of recorded books from the latest best sellers (fiction and non-fiction) and award winning authors. These titles and more can be downloaded for listening on a PC or other WMA compatible listening device. Check the E-Audiobook web page for more information.

New Look for Libraries’ Web Site

Take a look at some changes on the Libraries’ web site. Take a look at some changes on the Libraries’ website. The site now offers a quick search box for the UR Library Catalog, Library website, WorldCat, or Google Scholar. There is also a quick search for Subject Research Guides and an upfront link to "My Account". Icons are available to the LibMobile page, Library Blog, RefWorks and NoodleBib. Other categories (Finding Information, Services, Getting Help, etc.) remain the same.

LibMobile allows users of the University of Richmond Libraries greater access to library information (UR Library Catalog, PC Availability, Ask a Librarian, etc.) through mobile devices such as cellular phones, PDAs, and Pocket PCs. New Public Computers

The libraries are currently receiving new computers to replace the existing ones available to the public. New, larger monitors (17in.) are being installed as well. The new computers will sit on the work surface, underneath the monitor thus providing easy access to USB ports as well as the front-mounted headphone jack. The computers will continue to automatically connect to each individual user's shared network drive on NetFiles. Please see the Main Service Desk for assistance.

Discover the variety of resources on the library's Web site. Join Boatwright Librarians on Wednesday, July 12, from 1:30-2 p.m. for a 30-minute update on "Finding Full Text Newspaper Archives." Update on Library Renovation

Basement Level 1 (A-E books) materials are now accessible to users. However, be aware of drilling on B1 as the compact shelving is installed this week. Basement Level 2 (L-Z) books are fully accessible, but it is best to take the elevator to B1. For more details, check the Library Renovation Blog.

Library Renovation -- Summer 2006

During the summer of 2006, the University will renovate the B1 and B2 levels of Boatwright Library. These floors house the circulation books collection, the science reference collection, and the science bound periodicals. The renovation will increase group and quiet individual space and allow growth space for the book collections. NoodleBib Citation Builder can help you create bibliographies that comply with the rules of the current MLA Handbook and APA Publication Manual.

Faculty Authors featured on Libraries' website

Check out the Faculty Authors link on the lower left corner of the Libraries' website. This link connects to the Faculty Authors: Research and Publications database on the Richmond Research Institute website. After searching a faculty author or department, the user can link directly to the library catalog holdings for books and journals.

Upcoming Deadlines for Jackson and Modlin Awards

Deadlines for both the Jackson and Modlin Awards are April 10, 2006. The James W. Jackson Award for Excellence in Library Research in the Social Science is to recognize and encourage excellence in the use of library research skills in the social sciences. The Modlin Book Award was established by the faculty in 1971 to honor Dr. George M. Modlin upon his retirement as President of the University, to promote scholarly personal libraries, and to encourage undergraduate students to collect books pertaining to their particular areas of interest.

Library Database of the Week: Gallup Brain

The University Libraries have recently purchased subscription access to The Gallup Brain, a searchable, living record of 70 years of public opinion. Inside, you'll find answers to more than 136,000 questions, and responses from more than 3.5 million people interviewed by The Gallup Poll since 1935.This unparalleled public opinion database also houses Gallup Poll News Service articles, Gallup Poll Tuesday Briefing articles, and Gallup Management Journal articles that feature in-depth public opinion and management data analyses. Replicas of historical news stories and press releases are available as well. The Gallup Brian is available under ONLINE DATABASES and the UR LIBRARY CATALOG on the library's web site.

Remember! Boatwright Library now offers 24/7 Service

The 1st and 2nd floors of Boatwright Library are open for 24/7 study for UR students, staff and faculty. Library services end at 1 a.m., Sunday – Thursday and at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, but users may stay past those hours to study on the first and second floors. Two security guards check university ID cards and patrol the building between 1 a.m. – 8 a.m. (Sunday – Thursday) and between 9 p.m. – 11 a.m. (Friday –Saturday).

The teleconference will be held in the Jepson Alumni Center -Rosenbaum Room on Monday, March 13, 2006 from 1:00 -2:30 p.m. A discussion will follow from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. , led by Frosty Landon, Executive Director, Virginia Coalition for OpenGovernment. This event is free and open to the public.

ArtStor Adds Images of Islamic Art

Artstor (digital image database) has recently announced an agreement to collaborate on the distribution of up to 25,000 high quality digital images of the art and architecture of Islam from the personal archives of a team of leading scholar photographers in this field: Sheila Blair, Jonathan Bloom and Walter B.
