2008 Presidential Elections Research Guide

Boatwright Library has developed a 2008 Presidential Elections research guide to help students, staff, and faculty stay aware of the current campaign cycle. This guide provides information for academic work and personal decisions regarding this unprecedented election year.

The guide covers a variety of information such as:

· Information on state primaries & caucuses

· Campaign speeches & advertisements
· Sources for checking the accuracy of campaign claims

Boatipedia is the Libraries' attempt to incorporate all of our FAQs (frequently asked questions) into a Wiki. Similar to Wikipedia, you can find information on a variety of library information, such as how to access the library's electronic books, how to renew materials online, how to create an annotated bibliography and much more! Connect to Boatipedia and let us know what you think.

Boatwright Library Launches MEEBO Instant Messaging Service

Boatwright Library now has a "Live Chat" icon on the library's website where students, staff and faculty can ask brief questions about libary services and sources. Librarians will answer IM messages from AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, GoogleTalk, and ICQ. You can add our buddy name "boatwrightinfo" to your buddy list or use the "Live Chat" icon. If you have a lengthy or involved question, you may be asked to email a librarian or to schedule a personal research appointment.

New Political Science Resources from Congressional Quarterly

Boatwright Library has added two new online reference sources in the field of political science. These include CQ Almanac Online Edition, a definitive reference resource for studying the United States Congress (1946- present) and CQ Press Political Reference Suite which provides legislative histories, policy analysis, and congressional profiles. Both sources are available under ONLINE DATABASES on the library's website.

RefWorks Workshops

RefWorks is web-based bibliographic software that allows researchers to collect references from anywhere, at any time, and turn them into a personalized database. Users may automatically import references from online databases, manually import references, manage references using folders and easily generate formatted bibliographies into research papers, grants, or articles. RefWorks may be particularly useful to either faculty or students who are working on major research projects, student honors theses, etc.Boatwright Library will offer the following workshops on how to get started with RefWorks. Dates and times are:

Friday, September 21, 4-5 p.m. and Tuesday, October 9, 4-5 p.m.

Both sessions will be held in the Boatwright computer classroom on Basement Level 2. No registration is required.

Boatwright Library Collaborates with Career Development and International Education

Users can now search the UR Library Catalog and find career resource items (around 500) that are located in the Career Development Center (Richmond Hall) and international resources (around 150) that are in the International Resource Center (Puryear Hall).

New Search Interface for LexisNexis Academic

LexisNexis Academic, one of the library’s most popular full-text databases, has a new search interface. LexisNexis Academic contains the full-text of more than 350 newspapers from the U.S. and around the world, plus the most extensive archives available anywhere of Financial Times (dating back to 1982), The New York Times (dating back to 1980) and The Washington Post (dating back to 1977). It also includes more than 300 magazines and 600 newsletters; hard-to-find broadcast transcripts from the major television and radio networks; campus news, including the Chronicle of Higher Education and nearly 300 individual college/university papers; wire services; poll and surveys; and non-English language news sources available in Spanish, French, German, Italian and Dutch. New! Library Research Guides

The library's Research Guides by Subject/Major have a new design and look this fall. New features include prominent contact information for the liaison librarian; top ten recommended library resources for the subject area; easy search boxes for searching articles and the library catalog; Google custom searches for the subject area; links to other related research guides; and automatic weekly RSS feed for new book titles in the subject areas. Click on the title link to get the call number and connect to the catalog for reviews and more!

NEW! Purchase print credits via BANNERWEB

Students now have the convenient option of purchasing printing credits online. To purchase credits online, log in to your BannerWeb account, click on 'Spidercard Main Menu,' and then click 'Buy Print Credits.' Credits cost $.08 each and are sold in increments of 25. If you need to add additional funds to your Spidercard, you can do so by following the appropriate link on the same webpage. This new service will allow you to conduct the transaction from any computer connected to the internet. Credits can still be purchased at Boatwright Library's Main Service Desk in cash with a maximum purchase of 50 credits ($4.00).

Library Catalog Kiosk Now Available

In response to popular demand, Boatwright Library now offers a library catalog kiosk that does not require a university NETID and password. Anyone can walk in the library and check the catalog for material availability and location. The kiosk is located right behind the bust of Frederic Boatwright in the front lobby area of the library.
